Terms of Service

These terms are a legal agreement between you and MasquePlay. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. What MasquePlay Is

MasquePlay is a couples roleplay game. You and your partner each choose fictional personas from a daily pool, and when you both pick personas you like, you get matched into a private chat where you play as those characters together.

2. Who Can Use It

You must be 18 years or older to use MasquePlay. By signing up you confirm that you are at least 18. Do not invite or help anyone under 18 use the app.

MasquePlay is designed for two adults in a consenting relationship. During a private beta, you may need an admission code to create the first account. A partner code is always used to link the second account through the official pairing flow.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for your account. Keep your password safe. Don't share your account with anyone other than your partner through the official pairing flow.

You must provide a real email address. We may use it to send you important service-related messages.

If you suspect someone has accessed your account without permission, contact us right away.

4. How the Service Works

• Couple pairing. You and your partner link accounts using an invite code. A couple cannot be dissolved and re-formed with a different person — accounts are paired one-to-one.
• Daily personas. Each day we show you a pool of AI-generated fictional characters. You select the ones you'd like to play.
• Matching. When you and your partner both select the same persona, you get matched into a roleplay chat.
• Chat. Messages are stored by MasquePlay and visible to both partners. We may also use AI to suggest an opening message to kick off a roleplay.
• AI features. Some features use AI to generate personas, opening lines, message rewrites, or additional persona photos. See our AI Disclosure for the plain-English details.

5. What You Can and Can't Do

You can:

• Use MasquePlay for its intended purpose — private, consensual couples roleplay.
• Report content that seems unsafe, non-consensual, or against these terms.
• Export or print your own conversation history for personal use.

You can't:

• Use MasquePlay if you are under 18.
• Use MasquePlay with someone who has not consented to participate.
• Create, request, share, or encourage content involving minors, sexual exploitation, trafficking, abuse, or non-consensual sexual conduct.
• Use the service to harass, threaten, impersonate, violate someone's privacy, or harm anyone.
• Attempt to access another couple's data, reverse-engineer the app, or exploit security vulnerabilities.
• Automate requests to the API or scrape content.
• Use MasquePlay for anything illegal.

We may remove content, disable features, or suspend accounts when needed to enforce these rules or protect the service.

6. Your Content

Messages you send in MasquePlay are intended for you and your partner. We don't use them for advertising and we don't routinely review them.

Authorized MasquePlay staff may access account or content data only when reasonably needed to operate or debug the app, respond to support requests, investigate reports or abuse, protect security, enforce these terms, or comply with the law.

You own what you write. By using the service you give us a limited licence to store, transmit, and process your messages solely to operate the app and the optional AI features you choose.

You are responsible for what you send. Don't send content that is illegal in your jurisdiction.

7. Subscription and Payments

The private beta is free. If MasquePlay offers paid subscriptions, current pricing, plan length, features, and the payment provider will be displayed at purchase.

Recurring subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel before the renewal date. Cancellation and refund options depend on where you purchased and will be provided through the applicable web checkout, Apple App Store, Google Play, or other identified payment provider. Payment card details are handled by the payment provider, not stored by MasquePlay.

We reserve the right to change pricing with reasonable notice.

8. AI-Generated Content

Personas in MasquePlay (images, names, bios) are generated using AI and are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to real people is coincidental. Do not treat AI-generated persona descriptions as factual.

We may also use AI to suggest conversation starters. These are suggestions only — you are not required to use them.

If you use optional AI rewrite features, your draft and recent chat context are sent to an AI provider so the feature can work. You are responsible for reviewing AI suggestions before sending them.

9. Termination

You can delete your account at any time in the app or by contacting us. Deleting your account removes your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.

Because MasquePlay is built for couples, deleting one account may pause the couple pairing and remove or affect shared roleplay history tied to that account. Your partner's own account remains theirs.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on the severity.

10. Disclaimers

MasquePlay is provided "as is." We don't guarantee the app will be available 100% of the time or that it will be error-free. AI-generated content is not reviewed by humans before it appears in the app.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MasquePlay is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months before the claim arose (or $10 if you haven't paid anything).

12. Changes to These Terms

We'll notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date and, where significant, showing you the updated terms in the app. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the changes.

13. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
