The cast

A few of The Veil’s strangers.

Every character is fictional and AI-generated. Each night you are both dealt ten; your partner keeps one of theirs, and you have to find it.

  • Skorrunn Storm, a The Veil character, at the Lantern Quay

    Skorrunn Storm, 29

    Lantern Quay

Swears she only came to watch the singers, admits nothing when asked why she never joins the chorus.

  • Caelovin Marblehaven, a The Veil character, at the Dockside Tavern

    Caelovin Marblehaven, 22

    Dockside Tavern

Feeds a whole table from bread he baked that morning, gathering the night's best gossip to fold into his next revel.

  • Henrietta Greymere, a The Veil character, at the Night Market

    Henrietta Greymere, 29

    Night Market

Haggles for the freshest bundles by scent alone, and slips a free cure to whoever looks worst off.

  • Ilarion Greymere, a The Veil character, at the Lantern Quay

    Ilarion Greymere, 21

    Lantern Quay

Walks the lanterns most evenings, ferryman off duty, drawn to whoever makes him forget his boat leaves at dawn.

  • Liliana Foxlane, a The Veil character, at the Dockside Tavern

    Liliana Foxlane, 32

    Dockside Tavern

Knows every crew by name and buys the first round; loudest table in the room.

  • Bramble Thornfen, a The Veil character, at the Night Market

    Bramble Thornfen, 35

    Night Market

Books half his fire-dancers over cups here, remembers every vendor's name, and never lets a haggle turn unkind.

The game

Four moves, and the night is yours.

A minute to set up. Everything after that is the two of you — try it below.

  1. 01

    Set the scene

Whoever opens the app first picks where tonight happens. You both play it.

  2. 02

    Keep one character

Ten characters arrive. Keep one, lock it in, and say nothing.

  3. 03

    Find them in their ten

Swipe their ten. Every face is visible; only their choice is hidden.

  4. 04

    Play what happens next

If you each liked the other's kept character, a private chat opens and you play the scene in character.

A scene is the setting you and your partner share tonight — you’re both in the same one. It shapes both of your persona pools.

The story noticed. One of you reached a little further — and it was seen.

Pick where tonight starts. Whoever opens the app first chooses; you both play the same scene.

You are not looking for anyone.
You already found them.

You already know the person. The Veil changes the city, the century, and what the two of you are willing to say out loud in it.

Where scenes start

Where a night in The Veil begins.

Whoever opens the app first picks tonight’s scene, and you both play it. A few of the places it can start, and the hour you find them in:

  1. Lantern Quay

The lantern quay after the last boat has gone, half the lanterns guttering, the mist coming in off the mere.

  2. Night Market

The night market at pack-down, awnings coming in, the last trays going for whatever is offered.

  3. Festival of Lanterns

The festival of lanterns just before the release, everyone holding a light and waiting on the bell.

  4. Dockside Tavern

The dockside tavern when a boat has just come in, every shared table full, the last two free spaces on the same bench.

  5. High Court

The high court in the last hour of a long reception, candles low, the important people already gone.

  6. Grand Bathhouse

The grand bathhouse in its last hour, most pools drained, the vapor thinning under the dome.

An illustration written for this page. In the app, every line is written by one of the two of you.

You are not on the guest list. I would remember.
And you are no courtier. You keep counting the candles.
Someone has to know when the dark arrives.
Then tell me how long we have.
Eleven candles. Ten, now.
Then stop counting and dance with me before it is nine.

Before you come in

About The Veil.

What couples ask about this stage. Privacy, AI, devices and the beta are in the full FAQ.

Every question, answered

Do we need to know fantasy to play?

No. Each scene tells you where you are, and every character arrives with a name, a face and a bio. Thornmere is a candlelit city on a misted lake where everyone arrives masked; that is all you need to begin.

Who are the characters in The Veil?

Humans, elves, fae, vampires, orcs, sirens, shifters and more. Every one is fictional and AI-generated. Your partner plays one of them; you play another.

Is The Veil romantasy?

Yes: formal courtship, old longing and a little danger, in the spirit of romantasy novels. Where a scene goes after that is up to the two of you.
